Beginning of the darkest times

Organized and led by the communist leadership, the Hungarian Independence Popular Front were the only entity to contest this third election, winning it with 96% of the vote. In the new parliament the Workers’ Party takes 71% of the seats, with the rest occupied by “fellow travelers”. The darkest period of communism in Hungary begins.
