A well-deserved triumph

The first freely elected parliament in over four decades sat for the first time, thereby officially ending communist rule in Hungary. That same day parliament passed Law XXVIII of 1990, which declared that 1956 was a revolution and fight for freedom, enshrined the memory of the revolution into law, and also declared that October 23rd would become a national holiday.
